The neighborly actions continue
Medical support for a neighbor, Mt. Pleasant cleanup, solidarity with Palestine, vaccines for homebound people and more
Hi, everyone. Here are a few things we can do with and for our neighbors in the coming days. I suspect there are more things, so you may get another one of these pretty soon, but in the meantime, commit to one if you can and invite a friend to join you.
TODAY, 5/19, BY 4pm (to sign up) / TOMORROW, 5/20, 4pm onward (to testify, remotely): Free school lunches are an absolute no-brainer, so let’s testify in support of this bill, H5931, that provides for them. Sign up here to testify aloud, or send written testimony to housefinance@rilegislature.gov by 1pm tomorrow. Tell the RI House how much easier it is to learn when you aren’t hungry, how much easier it is to want to go to school if you know you won’t be shamed for not being able to pay for lunch, and how this is a way for our state to be responsible for the well-being of all the children who are growing up here.
Anytime this week, remotely: Kelsey left a terrible job and could use some help paying for the care they need for their body and mind. Please share funds if you can.
5/21, 5pm, Burnside Park, Providence: Join our neighbors in a public gathering and demand for an end to US funding of the Israeli military—money that they have been using for many years, and especially aggressively this past week, to destroy Palestinian homes, hospitals and schools and kill Palestinian families.
5/23, 10-11:30am, Mt. Pleasant Memorial Park (28 Academy Ave, Providence):
Anytime after now: Homebound East Providence residents may call 401-654-4645 to request an at-home vaccination appointment. Homebound Pawtucket residents may call 401-726-2000. If you know or know of anyone in that situation for any reason—including people 12 and up—who lives in those towns, please help them get set up with an appointment.
BY 5/28, remotely: Food rescue/food justice organization Hope’s Harvest RI is hiring for a one-year Americorps position. Could this be a job for you?
With love,
Kate
