Hi, everyone. Here are a few more things to do with and for our neighbors in the coming days, including one this very evening. Also refer to the last action list for things that can still get done today and tomorrow and so on!
Anytime after now: If you are a RI resident, identify as Black, Indigenous, or a person of color, & are looking to sign up for a Covid-19 vaccine, appointments are still available on April 10th, 11th, 17th, & 18th! Contact Kiah at kbryant@daretowin.org or Dee at dwojcicki@daretowin.org to sign up. You do NOT need insurance. RI has said publicly that undocumented immigrants are eligible for vaccinations, that no questions about immigration status will be asked when you make or go to your vaccine appointment, and that they will not share any information with immigration authorities. The state and city vaccination centers sometimes have police or National Guard there controlling who goes into the vaccine area, directing the lines, telling people to keep socially distanced, and observing people who are waiting for 15-30 minutes after their vaccine. People who have gotten their vaccines at pharmacies and Clinica Esperanza say they haven't seen police there. If you receive harassment from police or ICE at the vaccine site, please call the AMOR support line: 401-675-1414.
TODAY, 4/7, BY 4pm (to sign up) / TOMORROW, 4pm and onward (to testify), remotely: Sign up here to testify in favor of Senate Bill 190, which provides for drivers’ licenses for undocumented Rhode Islanders. This would give people increased freedom of movement and the ability to access basic needs (groceries! doctors’ appointments!), earn money (jobs that aren’t on the bus line/are too far to walk or bike to!) and help family and friends.
TODAY, 4/7, 5:30-6:30pm, RI State House (Smith Street side): Join Sunrise Providence for a rally to demand that our legislature pass the Rescue RI Act and sign on to the federal THRIVE agenda. I think it’s going to be nice out! Make it a fun time! FB event here for those who wish to invite people that way.
Anytime this week: The Wood Street Cooperative is looking for new residents beginning in May and June! They are a housing cooperative on the West End near Dexter Park and practice labor sharing and collective decision making. See their housing ad for more information and if you are interested please fill out this google form.
4/10, 2-4pm, Temple to Music, Roger Williams Park, Providence: A rally to unite people for the fight against brutality in RI prisons. Wear your mask and come prepared to learn what you can do.
With love,
Kate
