Neighborly actions today, this weekend, and more
March for Ma'Khia Bryant (and support line), phonebank for racial and environmental justice, donate office supplies for Counselors Not Cops, and more.
Hi, everyone. Here are a few more things to do with and for our neighbors this week and weekend and so on.
TODAY, 6:30pm, RI State House, Providence: Police have killed another child—Ma’Khia Bryant of Columbus, OH. Join our neighbors in grief and rage. Wear your mask.
Radical Mental Health Collective RI will be answering a processing/venting line , a service that they’re planning to offer regularly in the coming months for people who need a listening ear after demonstrations, arrests, court, jail and other cop and state intrusions on their well-being. That number is 401-484-7885. Save it in your phone.
TODAY, 6pm, remotely: Phonebank to gather support for Rescue RI, three linked bills that would build environmental, housing and food justice in our state. Slow violence is violence; people whose lives are shortened or shrunken by pollution, hunger and lack of shelter are also being injured by racism. These bills would do some large-scale work to improve living conditions for oppressed and marginalized peoples on this land. If you aren’t going to tonight’s demonstration and are okay on the phone, sign up to phone bank.
4/24, 6:30pm, Market Square, Woonsocket: Vigil for lives lost to police violence, hate crimes and domestic violence. (You can go to the Olneyville neighborhood cleanup in the morning and this in the evening, if you want.) Food, masks, hand sanitizer provided; bring something to make a light with. I also really like this flyer’s suggestion to bring a friend. I recommend for pretty much everything I tell you about—it is good to have company during, and to have someone who was also there to think and feel with, after.
Anytime this week (sooner is better): At the end of April, Providence students are walking out of school to demand Counselors Not Cops. You can help them by donating office supplies and other materials and tools! See image below for the full list and how to get things to them, or donate funds to purchase these things.
4/29, 6pm, remotely: South Providence and Washington Park residents may want to take this chance to meet with Groundwork RI, who (among other things) are working toward lead remediation on the Southside. Email southprovneighbors@gmail.com to get the meeting link or for more info.
With love,
Kate
