Neighborly Actions for the rest of the week
Get a vaccine appointment, directly support two neighbors, fight another neighbor's deportation, rally for good public transit and join a justice circle!
Hi, everyone. Here are some more things to do for and with our neighbors!
ASAP: If you are a BIPOC Rhode Island resident 16 or older, haven’t yet received your first vaccine dose, and want to, there is another vaccine equity event on 4/17 at the Dunkin Donuts Center. You’ll need an appointment: please email Miguel at miguelsanchezpvd@gmail.com and he can send you a link just for you! (You can also ask him for links for family members, obviously.) I also want to renew the request for interpreters for this day: if you speak Hmong, Khmer, Spanish, Cape Verdean Creole, Haitian Creole, Kirundi, or any other language widely spoken in Providence, please let Miguel know and he’ll help you get set up to volunteer!
There are also some nice spots for Providence residents of any race 18 or older living in ZIP codes 02904, 02905, 02906, 02907, 02908, 02909, starting around 12:30pm on 4/17 at the Providence Career and Technical Academy: try this link, & copy/paste it if it doesn’t work right away. https://www.vaccinateri.org//reg/1210069305
ASAP, remotely: If you have cash to share this week, please share some of it with a neighbor who is single, pregnant, and trying to navigate medical misconduct. Also, anyone with knowledge of medical malpractice lawyers, please include that in your donation note, or—if you’re not able to donate but know of one—tell me and I will pass it on!
ASAP, remotely: Shawn just got out of the ACI—can you help him get back on his feet by covering some basic needs? Cashapp: $south401side, Venmo: @Shawn-Thompson-55, Paypal: shawnThompson31.
ASAP, remotely: Samnang needs help with legal fees to fight a deportation order that is even more ridiculous than they usually are. He’s lived in the US since he was one year old! This country hasn’t always done right by him, but it is his home. Please donate here if you can.
4/17, 2pm, Kennedy Plaza/Burnside Park: The new governor seems just as eager to destroy Kennedy Plaza, and make RIPTA harder to use (especially for poorer people, elders, and people with disabilities), as the old governor was. This Saturday, speak up for a functioning transit system! This is a racial, environmental and disability justice issue. The rally’s in the park, so bring your kids and they can play on the playground.
4/19, 6-9pm, remotely: Sista Fire RI is holding their next justice circle for women, femme and nonbinary people of color. If that describes you and you’re looking to connect and build across generations, register here. If it doesn’t describe you, share with friends, co-workers, family members…
The things that hurt us are connected, and so is our survival.
With love,
Kate
